The Ultimate Spring Cleaning Checklist

Double Chevron Left Back to Wellness

Spring is here at long last! It’s time to breathe new life into your home by doing some good old-fashioned spring cleaning.

Polysleep has put together the Ultimate Spring Cleaning Checklist to help you get started.

First thing’s first: stocking up on the right cleaning supplies makes all the difference. Here’s some supplies you may want to have on hand:

  • Environmentally-friendly multi surface cleaners
  • Baking soda
  • Rubber gloves
  • Mop and bucket
  • Vacuum
  • Dusters
  • Sponges
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Garbage bags and recycling bins

Now it’s time to dive right into our checklist:

1. Schedule your spring cleaning time

Step one is finding the right time to spring clean. Remember that old adage “Rome wasn’t built in a day”; well spring cleaning isn’t done overnight and the key is doing small increments over time. For instance, your schedule might allow you to do some spring cleaning a few hours a day during the week or over an entire weekend.

2. Declutter and donate

Before you start spring cleaning, it’s best to tackle your clutter beforehand. As Marie Kondo would say, ask yourself if each item “sparks joy” then only keep the items that do. Help the environment and your community by donating some of your unwanted household items to Goodwill, The Salvation Army or a local charity in your area.

3. Clean from room to room

Dividing your spring cleaning by room makes the whole process less daunting. Here are some suggestions of ways you may want to tackle each room:

Kitchen

  • Clean and organize the pantries
  • Wipe down surfaces and floor
  • Clean the dishwasher, refrigerator, stove and microwave (inside and out)
  • Deep clean the trash can and recycling bins

Living Room

  • Dust ceiling fans and electronic appliances
  • Wash rugs and drapes (or have them professionally cleaned)
  • Clean underneath and behind large appliances and furniture
  • Wash windows and window screens

Bedroom

  • Flip your mattress and wash your bed, including the mattress and pillow protectors
  • Replace your winter linens with light, fresh ones
  • Dust your dressers, vanity and furniture
  • Vacuum and mop floors

Bathroom

  • Deep clean the floor tiles
  • Deep clean the bathtub and/or shower
  • Wash the shower curtain
  • Clean and organize your medicine cabinet

4. Wipe down everything in sight

Yes, your walls, ceilings and baseboards all require a good spring cleaning every single year!

Polysleep Pro Tip

Wall stains can be tackled by mixing a few tablespoons of baking soda with water until a paste forms, then simply wipe it down with a dry microfiber cloth.

*Caution: Do not wet areas around outlets or other electrical connections. Turn off electricity at the circuit breaker box first.

5. Check your smoke detectors

Springtime and daylight savings is a good reminder to check your smoke detectors and replace any batteries that need changing. At the same time, make sure to double-check your carbon monoxide alarms.

Remember that spring cleaning can be a very therapeutic and positive activity for the entire family. Our hope is that our Ultimate Spring Cleaning Checklist will be a great guide for you and provide you with the fresh start you need to transition into a whole new, vibrant season!
